My Career so far

I started creating videos in 2015 when my friends and I filmed a music video using a navy blue sheet, a cheap work light from the hardware store, and my parent’s garage.

about a year later I moved to shanghai and started working my first corporate job. I quit in less than two months after realizing it wasn't for me.

Armed with a camera, a laptop, and the knowledge i had from making videos with my friends, i decided to pursue my passion. That landed me a job as the in-house director of photography for a production company based in shanghai, china.

After four years there, i decided to move back to california to join youthbeat, a non-profit in oakland creating media career pathways for diverse storytellers, as their creative director.

What others have to say about me:

There have been several times when I am stuck on an edit, feeling like I can’t pull it off, and Jalil comes in and gives feedback in a way that clicks. Whether it’s pointers on how to structure a story, using music to advance the edit, or any other little trick, working with Jalil has made me a better and more confident editor. - Chris Martinez, Editor @ YouthBeat

I remember when I first interviewed Jalil, something that stood out to me was how honest he was about his work experience. When talking about his lighting skills, he was sincere about how little experience he had. You could tell he was confident, yet humble. After working more than four years as his supervisor, I know he was 100% the hire I needed to elevate the work we produced at Dangxia Media.
- Wenxin Shen, Founder @ Dangxia Media

The great thing about working with Jalil is that he’s open to experimenting with ideas, and because of his skill and professionalism, these ideas often turn out great. Who would think about spraying water on the floor to hide the imperfections and create some beautiful reflections while filming a car in a studio? That’s what happens when you combine experience with experimentation, and that’s Jalil in a nutshell. Working with him inspires me and the teams we work with. He helped us by elevating our production value with limited resources, pushing our limits, and making the impossible possible.
